Any one applying for Douglas college Vancouver ( Fall 2014) lets discuss here .I have received offer letter and paid fess. Anyone who is going to Vancouver on student visa other than this college in Sept. 2014 can also share their views.

Hello.

I'm getting ready to start at Douglas this fall.

I opted to get the study permit at the border when we flew out a few months ago. We were granted both a study permit (for me) and an open work permit (for my wife).

They messed up my initial study permit by putting a work restriction on it (despite being after June 1). I applied for corrections, but that ended up taking a while. While I was waiting, I ended up crossing the border in a car, and they just printed me a new study permit (that shows that I am eligible to work) while I was there.

Hi guys, I will like to ask questions about student visa. I have gotten 2 different schools that are ready to give admissions for winter.
My wife is the one applying as a student, I want to depend on her do you if work permit will be issue for while she have her student visa plus a kid (8 months).
I have a msc in the uk while I am planning coop program or nursing for my wife, is it advisable she apply or I apply?

Please, ur advise is needed very urgent.

@Tosode : I m in exactly in same, yes you will be granted Open work permit as long as ur wife is in active student status. As you have to take care of ur wife school expenses, ur baby by your job..make sure u land in a place where collge fee is less and enough chances of full time jobs for you. If you any college like that please let me know abt it..I am in search of such place and collge.thanks...

@luckyboy the active student statues u mean is that she wont be granted work permit on her visa?
a friend recommends calgary.

@Tosode : I mean to say , you will be able to work legally without any restrictions as long as your spouse is studying fulltime in college.

Reg Calgary : any idea which collge is good with reasonable fee for Pg diploma courses

I was emailed my LOA (Letter of Acceptance). I arrived at Vancouver airport, and showed it to the officer when he asked.

Students are permitted to work up to 20 hours per week when school is in session, and full-time when on a scheduled break.

For the Business Administration program, here's the breakdown of fees for the first semester:

Tuition ($510.00 CAD per credit, 12 credits): $6120.00 CAD
Student Union Fees: $59.10 CAD
Student Activity Fees: $45.10 CAD
Registration and Service Fee: $33.00 CAD
Transit Pass: $147.00 CAD
Health and Dental Plan: $260.00 CAD

All fees are required for international students, and the total for the first semester came to $6,664.20 CAD. In addition, the BC medical plan is required at $69.25 CAD/mo. Books came out to around $500 CAD.

All in all, it's around $7,000 CAD per semester.
