Hi, I am currently looking at admissions for Fall 2023. However my dependent child (4yr old) will be accompanying me. I plan on adding him in my application for study permit. That way both our applications will get processed together. My question is, will i need a study permit for him to attend school there? what kind of visa will my child get?

Visa/ permits for family members are not guaranteed. If you won’t study in Canada without your child yes you should apply for the study permit for your child along with your application. Some of the information still indicates that a TRV is fine but most VOs will want to see a study permit if you child will attend public school for kindergarten. They are separate applications. You will need to show additional funds to show that you can support your child while you study. Housing, food and especially childcare is very expensive. Most children attending school have a shorter school day than parents who work or attend school so after school childcare and sometimes before school childcare can be required. If you have a young child working may not be possible either to supplement your funds. Childcare can be expensive and consume the majority of wages and may not be easily available on Evenings and weekends when most students work.

Agree with above and file for study permit for child. Also show additional funds for childcare (before and after school, care if you are working part-time). You will want to estimate $1-1.5 k per month for child care so want to show these funds. Daycare is expensive in Canada. Also there are waiting lists so you might not have care for your child.

I applied for my study permit in Aug 2021 and included my 14yo daughter's application as accompanying child. She was issued a TRV with same validity as my study permit. We moved to Canada in Dec 2021 and I received my study permit and she received a Visitor's Record at the Port of Entry. The school she attends were happy to admit her using the Visitor Record alone.
