I have a MS degree in Electrical Engineering. I have 21 months of work experience in one job. That job was Field Engineer and my job was to test the devices and report any issues with them. In the letter from the company, HR has mentioned following as my job duties:

1. Executing lab tests on latest test devices and software, troubleshooting issues found, collecting Key Performance Indicators over LTE, WCDMA, GSM/GPRS
2. Working with multi discipline team to test and commercialize products

I am also getting a Recommendation letter from my work manager which will also state more of my day to day work.

I have put this under NOC 2147: Computer engineers (except software engineers and designers)

Also, presently I am employed as Signal processing engineer for the past 6 months. I am also putting this under NOC 2147.

My questions are:

1. Are my NOCs correct ? (If some one has worked in similar job line, I would like your guidance)
2. Also, can I use different NOC for these two jobs ? or the entire work experience should be in one NOC. I have gotten 25 points for Foreign work experience which means they have counted my work ex to be between 1-2 year.

Help would be very helpful as I am very confused.

You can use as many NOC but in your situation it sounds like the same NOC code for both positions.

Try to ensure that the recommendation letter from your line manager matches the NOC 2147 description (as long as it truly describes your duties).

NOC 2147

Main duties

Computer and telecommunications hardware engineers perform some or all of the following duties:

  • Analyze user's requirements, and design and develop system architecture and specifications
  • Research, design, develop and integrate computer and telecommunications hardware such as microprocessors, integrated circuit boards and semiconductor lasers
    • Develop and conduct design verification simulations and prototype bench tests of components
    • Supervise, inspect and provide design support during the manufacturing, installation and implementation of computer and telecommunications hardware
      • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and clients
      • May lead and co-ordinate teams of engineers, technologists, technicians and drafters in the design and development of computer and telecommunications hardware.

Network system and data communication engineers perform some or all of the following duties:
      • Research, design and develop information and communication system network architecture
      • Research, evaluate and integrate network system and data communication hardware and software
        • Assess, document and optimize the capacity and performance of information and communication system networks
        • May lead and co-ordinate teams of design professionals in the development and integration of information and communication system architecture, hardware and software.

Thanks for the reply YamPower. Also, did you work in similar line ? I saw that you used the term "Line Manager". Is this a fairly common term ?

I was 2281 but my job title was Network Engineer so unless I read the description properly I thought I was 2147.

Line manager is usually the same as supervisor or direct manager or team manager. It depends on where you work.
