Does work permit cancel out my study permit?

Hi,

heres my situation. i am a chinese student with a study permit. it was required for me to also apply for a temporary resident visa in order to enter canada. i had graduated this year and obtained a work permit. however, i had decided to pursue my education in UK and had therefore left canada. i am planning on visiting canada this xmas to see my friends. my question is, from what i had seen from other posts, having a work permit automatically cancel out my study visa, and since i had gotten my temporary resident visa along with my student permit, is that temporary resident visa still in effect? do i need to apply for a visitor visa in order to enter canada? thanks for the help!

One can hold only one status, study or work at any given time. As you have completed your studies and obtained PGWP (but your TRV issued earlier is still valid) is good to go. TRV is to enter the country while purpose of stay is defined by permit. However, as in your case, now if you are only visiting as tourist to meet friends, you should apply for tourist visa.

Otherwise, your TRV issued in the first place is still valid (assuming it has validity period till December when you are planning to visit).
