You don't need to mention it if there is no proof on the passport. Plus, when you fill the files there is no such question, it only asks if you've travelled in the last 5 years. Maybe i could be wrong, wait for more answers.

1. Very bad advice. You mention all refusals. It is one of the questions. Question 2 Background information.

you should answer truthfully. any how japan donot share data with usa uk aus newzeland canada.if you donot tell them .Japan embassy will not let them know about your refusal .but remember you donot have japan embassy stamp on pasport .
but i advice you never tell lie. some times this truth helps to understand visa officer that you have truthfully answered every thing in visa application and you didn't hide any thing.as far Japan visa refusal is not based on criminality.

Hey bro ,
Actually my last visa was refused on dec 2019 and the only point was given to me was i am not satisfied you will leave canada at the end of your stay so i was wondering if it is because of the japan tourist visa refusal , and yea i did mentioned it because i had a stamp on my passport but as of now as my passport had validity of 1 year left , i renewed it for my new visa application ,so i was wondering should i mention it now as my new passport doest have the stamp anymore .

I’m in the same boat as yours right now, I have travelled many countries the past 5 years but I want to apply for the study permit with a new passport, I don’t know if I have a problem if I did so.

there is no point in hiding anything, you already mentioned it in your previous application, they have everything in record, purposely hiding this information can be considered fraud and will result in a 10 years ban from entering the country.
that Japanese denial was unlikely the reason you was rejected, but without any info, we can't really comment much about it
