Hi guys!
Im an overexcited new PR lol hubby and I were reading about next step (citizenship). As far as I knew, its around 3 years after receiving PR CARD and staying an amount of days in Canada. I have 5 years in Canada prior to PR and never left the country.

Hubby find out this link http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become-eligibility.asp
specially this:

"Time you have lived in Canada
You must have resided in Canada for at least three years (1,095 days) in the past four years before you apply. This does not apply to children under 18.

You may be able to count time you spent in Canada before you became a permanent resident if it was during the past four years.

Use our online tool to find out if you have lived in Canada long enough to apply to become a citizen."

In which situations can this apply? I mean. if I can count the time living in Canada before becoming a PR, well... that means that I can apply for citizenship right away?
It isnt clear,

sorry if this has been already ask, thanks for your help.

Yes, you can count some of the time before you became a PR. Each day before you became a PR is only counted as half a day towards the residency requirement. However two out of the three residency years required to qualify for citizenship must be accumulated AFTER you become a PR. So if you just became a PR then you don't qualify unfortunately.

For now, time before PR counts, as scylla explained above.

However, the new citizenship bill contains a proposed amendment that time spent in Canada prior to becoming a PR will no longer be counted. If the bill passes, you will not be able to include any time you spent in Canada prior to becoming a PR. As well, the bill proposes to increase the residency requirement from 3 years to 4 years. If the bill passes as is, it means you won't be able to apply until 2018 at the earliest.
