Does the host need to prove claims made in invitation letter?

My host has been following the instructions from the CIC website to write me an invitation letter:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/letter.asp

However, I've looked around and I've read some sample letters where the host attached a lot of extra documents to prove the claims made in the letter. Example documents included with the invitation letter were: income proof, work contract, proving the address etc.

On the other hand, the link above only requires the invitation letter itself and a photocopy of a document proving their status in Canada.

This is really confusing. Is the host/inviter really supposed to send me something else beside the letter and status document?

It would be very helpful if there will be extra documents from the one inviting you. Like NOA, T4, COA. But this is something that you have to really ask from your inviter. If they are willing to give you these documents then that is good.

There were cases though that an inviter only gave a copy Pr Card and the letter and it was just fine but the one being invited showed a lot of money to prove that he/she can afford to travel to Canada.

Best of luck to you!
