Hi. Hope some members can give advice on this:

I know that one of the requirements for family sponsorship is that the sponsor never received any financial assistance from the government. I am planning to consider enrolling my child in a licensed daycare, and per online calculator, I could receive subsidy for the child care close to 300dollars a month at a 53k combined annual income. Registering my child would allow me to work full time. Does this subsidy affect future family sponsorship? Has anyone who received child care subsidy got aporoved as a sponsor for family class sponsorship?

Your valuable comments would be greatky appreciated. Thank you.

I am slightly confused by your question. If you have a 'combined' income of 53K who exactly would you be sponsoring via 'future family sponsorship'? It sounds as if your family is already with you.

On to your question, I don't think that a child care subsidy qualifies as welfare. Welfare is what would cause problems for sponsorship.

Hi thanks for your reply. I'm sorry for the confusion. Yes, my family members are already here (spouse and kid). We plan to get our parents next year or after a couple of years under the supervisa category or as tourists. And sponsor them under the family class in the future so they can be permanent residents, too..

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/pgp-apply-who.asp this link outlines the criteria for sponsoring parents and it says there that "you MAY not be eligible to sponsor parents if you RECEIVED government financial assistance for reasons other than disability" and this really confuses me. I have been working part time for the past years and just recently working full time. It is my spouse who works full time. I am hesitant to apply for child care subsidy because of this clause. Any insights? Thanks

As I said previously, I am quite sure that the subsidy would not disqualify you. I don't think a child care subsidy qualifies as welfare. You want to avoid living on govt assistance but sounds as if you don't have that problem since both you and your spouse work. Just remember, that in order to sponsor parents to immigrate to Canada as PR's you and your husband will need to meet the LICO for 5? If it is you and your husband and 1 child, plus both of your parents. You will need to meet these minimum requirements +30% (unless that changes in the future) for 3 years previous to beginning the sponsorship process for your parents and then continue to meet it until your parents land as PR's.

I hope this helps answer your questions.

Hi yup thanks again. That's the reason as well why I wanna work full time -- to qualify for the minimum income requirements for 3 yrs. good to know that child care subsidy does not affect sponsorship. Does the Supervisa Category apply/consider the LICO, too? Thank u so much for your time :)

That I really have no idea. I am sure someone with more knowledge will come along to answer this. The weekends are usually pretty quiet around here. The only thing I know about the super visa is that you must provide medical insurance for your parents in order for them to qualify. This can be quite costly, but I don't know if there is a LICO involved.
