Does qualifying courses of an academic program count into 2 year full time study

Hi guys,

I am currently a student at University of Regina, MBA program. In order to meet the educational requirement of CEC, it is a must to have a two-year full-time study and one year work experience.

My MBA program is a one-year program, but since I lack business undergraduate degree, I was required by the school to pass 8 qualifying courses before I take any graduate level courses.

So, the total academic months will be 12+8=20 months.......does this mean that I have a two-year study experience to meet the CEC requirement? Do CIC count qualifying courses (like pre-MBA courses) into the whole academic study length?

Thanks a lot!

I think so, your transcript will show two years of course work, right?

This is interesting and could be open to interpretation.

The CEC manual says the applicant must have:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op25-eng.pdf

been enrolled full-time in a program of study or training with a duration of at least two
years
(i.e., two academic years of at least eight months excluding scheduled breaks,
such as summer holidays);

However, on a positive note, Section 6.3 of the manual also states:

Full-time studies (education requirement)
For the purposes of CEC, and to allow for greater flexibility, full-time studies are not
explicity defined within the Regulations, and therefore the definition that will apply is the
one used by the post-secondary institution which issued the educational credential
.

IMO, you need the university on your side with this, providing a proper explanation of why this 1 year program was a 2 year program for you.

I agree with jes_on. I think it can be done.
