Airline tickets are expensive. Most do not allow refunds.
The ones that do allow refunds are usually 75% higher.

I would like to order one of the affordable non refundable
tickets to visit canada but don't want to until I have
my tourist visa accepted. I am wondering if I have
to have proof of a plane ticket or an exact arrival day
included in the application forms.

I don't want to loose all the money for my plane ticket
or have to pay the outrageous high amounts for the tickets
that can be refunded.

From what I have seen on Forum it makes no difference to the outcome to have a ticket. The VO knows you can cancel a ticket and they won't grant a visa just so you don't lose your money. Do a search on forum for visa refusals and learn all you can so you avoid the problems. Your biggest hurdle is to convince the VO you will leave Canada before expiry of the visa. You do this by proving you have strong ties to your home country. Healthy bank balance, proof of ongoing employment including letter from employer granting the leave, property ownership or lease documents, school enrolment and evidence of good marks or scholarships, spouse/children/family ties, etc. Good luck.
