Hi Guys

My wife is pregnant and we are expecting a baby this June. I am entitled to 9 months of parental leave during which I will be paid 93% of my current salary which has employment insurance component too.

I didnt plan to take this leave earlier as we tried to bring my mother here to take care of things after delivery but her visa got rejected. Now I must take parental leave to take care of both mom and baby.

We have received CEC medicals requests last week but we couldnt complete XRay for my wife until after baby is born. So We believe our PR application will resume after our baby is born but my parental leave starts then too.

If I was in parental leave during CEC PR process, will it impact my chances of getting PR or BOWP.

Thanks
Mani

Hi Mani,
Thanks for raising this topic here, I am also in similar situation where my mother-in-law can't come since she met with an accident & My mother is too old, she can't travel this much. My doubt is how to get 93% of salary as unemployment insurance.
Do I need to resign I heard if you resign you won't get anything except in the case of termination. What is your suggestion???

You won't get 93% of your salary from unemployment insurance. It's only possible to receive a payment that high if your company's benefits policy pays additional money on top of unemployment insurance. Unemployment insurance only pays up to 55% of your salary.

No I am not resigning my job. It was part of my employment agreement.

Please talk to your HR or colleague. They might adivse you whats best for you regarding maternity/paternal leaves. I was worried if employment insurance part of my salary will make CIC think I am a burden to the system.

I hope everything works well for us.
