Does employment status hurt when sponsoring a spouse?

I'm planning to sponsor my wife-to-be later this year, does it actually matter to Canadian government whether she is employed or not while we apply for the permanent residency to bring her here? I'd think not since I as the sponsor have to support her... anyone know for sure?

If she comes from a visa-exempt country she doesn't need to apply for a trv which is why spouses need to prove they have a job. /In order to be approved for a trv you have to show strong ties to your home country so you will return although most people get the trv and stay in Canada and apply /inland. That is why spouses need to be employed. /it has nothing to do with supporting yourself.
