I did the online self-assesment for eligibility for the CSQ, can I apply for this in my country? (UK), and if so is the federal permanent residence application following this very straight-forward?

Kind regards,

Yes, it does. Once you receive your CSQ you will have to go through the Federal part of the process to get you visa. Once you get all paperwork from CIC and land in Canada you will get your permanent resident card.

I filled in all the information as accurately as possible, regarding my education and work experience here. And it comes back with the result that I am eligible. Would it be worth applying for the CSQ here in England?

Kind regards,

P.S Thanks for your kind replies guys.

I've read that the federal part is just a medical and other checks, so does that mean that the bulk of the eligiblity requirements are specified by the Quebec government's own criteria?

Thanks and sorry for all the questions my friend.

Yes. European BIQ tends to have a faster processing time than others. Another option is FSW but you will have to qualify with the degrees/career on their list

Federal is just medical and security checks but they are the ones that will grant you the visa. Unfortunately, CSQ does not guarantee you will get the permanent residence.

for your other question, yes, Quebec is the one that does the bulk of the processing. They are the ones to check your degrees, experience, language, etc.

Do remember that anything needs to be presented upfront. Meaning you need to have language test done, provide experience letters and all the necessary documents to get the points for your application

BIQ = Bureau d'immigration de Quebec. Basically, the processing center

Just have in mind that in order to get points for English/French you need to submit test for those languagues. TEF, DEL, Tefaq, etc for french, and IELTS for English (even if you come from an English speaking country)

Oh yes, the english test will be essential too you're right, as they will not give me points for it otherwise. I've seen centres here in Manchester that conduct the English and French tests. So I'm thinking of getting the TEF book and CD and practicing as much as possible and take the test here.

So would it be much better if I were to do a degree at a quebec university? In terms of meeting the criteria for permanent residence after the CSQ? It's essential that I am granted permanent residence, but I don't really want to go into education again. It's a lot of money for me to save for as well. But having said that, I can imagine things would be much easier later on having a Canadian degree.

AFTER CSQ you need to apply for visa to enter the country. You only need to pass medical and security test and then you will be able to enter the country and get your Permanent Resident card, there is no need for anything else after getting CSQ.

A quebec degree will only help you BEFORE CSQ so you can get more points, afterwards it would be only to help you while looking for a job/integrate.

The only requisite to hold the permanent residence is to stay in Canada for a period of time. I believe is 2 out of 5 years. 3 out of 4 if you want to apply for citizenship

I've also heard that as of this year, the government is placing less emphasis on the academic credentials of migrants in favour of languages skills and adaptability, why I be correct in saying this?

Kind regards

I don't think they are placing less emphasis on the academic. It pretty much have stayed the same. However, you are correct on regards of language. It started last year when B2 was the least level you can start getting points. Before you could even get points for A1

I'm going take the TEF and also the other English test that you mentioned here in the UK, I'm confident that I should obtain a good result for these. In terms of my education here I have an Advanced Diploma in Psychology and a HND in Graphic Design would these help towards my application? When I took the self-assessment it seemed that I got the same points for my education that I would from a bachelors. What route would you recommend that I take for obtaining permanent residence? Is it a difficult process?

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions, I appreciate it.
