I had requested my CAIPS file. Got a letter saying all parties had to provide a "consent to disclose personal information" and indicated it was for 3rd party release. I'm not the 3rd party, I AM the requesting applicant but it said all parties named had to sign the consent, meaning my husband.
Came back to this website and searched CAIPS and saw that PMM had previously said the spouse had to also give authority to release the info. to the other spouse. Mentioned it could not be done by email but in the letter I got they said any further info. could also be faxed. That's probably a lie too.
So I went to the website for Access to Information and Privacy, did a search on the very statement they said to submit, a "consent to disclose personal information", and the search turned up reference to Guide IMM 5475 Release of Information to a Designated Individual. So I searched for EXACTLY that form, and it does not even return a result for that form, to see if it really does cover release of info. to the other spouse as the designated individual.
I wonder if they are even smart enough that they know they are giving you the runaround like that so you never find the answer you are looking for or if they are just soooooo incredibly stupid they don't realize how poorly their websites are set up. Don't care is another possibility.
No wonder people who are starting to research the process have such a hard time.
