I applied for Canada citizenship on Jan 2nd, 2015. I got a mail from them stating they wont accept my MBA transcript(from India)as a proof of English language. Do you have any idea of what should i do? Should I call CIC or try the other options as a proof stated in the form. Please help. I am currently a PR. Thanks Niki

Citizenship Applied on January 2nd, 2015
Paid the $400 fee online: December 25th, 2014
CIC sent back the incomplete application letter: January 12th, 2015
Full name: Niketa Singh
Location: Toronto, ON

Did you send them a copy of your MBA degree as well?
From what I have read is that they need to know that you did complete your education
You should try to find out from CIC (dont know how) if providing a copy of your degree and a letter from your college stating your degree was in English and that you successfully completed your coursework attaining the degree suffice.
If this seems too much of a risk, then schedule yourself for either IELTS or CELPIP exam ASAP.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp#language

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program General Test (CELPIP-G) or the CELPIP-General LS (listening and speaking), not the academic version.
For tests taken after April 1, 2014,
you must have achieved a score of level 4 or higher (up to 12) in listening and speaking

International English Language Testing System (IELTS), general training, not the academic version You must have achieved a score of:
4.0 or higher in speaking, and
4.5 or higher in listening.

Hello Niki

What did you actually attach with your application?
Was it the:
1. MBA degree's photocopy
2. MBA degree's marksheets photocopy
3. MBA transcripts photocopy

Did the paperwork say "completed"?

Did you attach the letter from your university/institute stating that language/medium of instruction was in English?

I also suspect that they returned your application because of incomplete fees. Any application delivered after 1st Jan 2015 will require $630 payment.

What did the letter state exactly?

Hey there,

Thanks a lot for your comments.

Well my transcript/ full degree has the details of all subjects taken in each semester (4 sem in 2 years) with the scores. It also has the total CGPA for two years. Not sure if i will get a letter from the University in India now. Does this whole laminated degree wont help? I dont know how to contact the CIC to recheck? May be the photocopy was not clear. Can I just take a clean print and submit the new fees and try again?

Or just go and take the English test?

Thanks n advance.

Does any of your certificates from 10th class onwards state medium of instructions as "ENGLISH"? If so, then u are fine to send that as proof. Else, you need to request your college to send you a letter stating you had your education in ENGLISH language if you have done so or else take the specified exam.

What did you exactly send:

1. Photocopy of the degree only
2. Transcripts
3. Marksheets

Also, laminated documents are not acceptable in Canada. They are invalid.

If you want, you can order language of instruction letter from your institute and attach it with your application and resend it again.

Just remember, the new citizenship rule is coming into effect maybe this june where the eligibility would be residency for 4 out of 6 years. Right now the residence rule is 3 out of 4 years.
In that case, if you send the degree again with language of instruction letter and updated fees and if it is returned you will have less time to prepare for the test and the 4/6 rule will come into effect soon then you have to wait another year to reapply for citizenship.

Now you have three options:

1. Take english course as mentioned in the following link and resubmit application again.
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/CIT0002ETOC.asp

2. Contact your institute/university and get transcripts along with medium of instruction letter and resubmit the application (Its risky deal because cic might not accept it again)

3. Check if you have high school certificates stating the medium of instruction was english. You can attach it with your application and updated fees.(CIC may or may not accept it)

Did your degree state "completed"?

Did they specify the reason for the return because of insufficient fees or language proof or both?

Hi,

I'm planning to apply for citizenship on Feb 1st. I'm planning to attach a letter from the University of Madras in India which states that I pursued my PG degree there and the medium of instruction was English, along with copies of my PG degree certificate and the relevant 2 years' mark sheets, which are entirely in English. Is this sufficient proof of language proficiency?

Should I include the original letter from the university or would a copy suffice?

I think so. I have also done the similar way. I have included my bachelors degree and masters degree, marksheets and medium of instruction letter. Let's hope they will accept my application.

I am not sure what is their criteria for checking the degrees/certificates for language proof. I have seen people who have done BA, their degree was accepted and I have also seen the people who have done MBA, their degree was not accepted.

I applied with Transcripts and degree certificate of my Bachelor and Masters in engineering from Bangalore. and my application is moved to local office. So i think they have accepted them.

thecoolguysam : are laminated documents are illegal in Canada ? My degree and Transcript are laminated , does this can create issue during document verification ?

Laminated documents are not accepted in Canada. Someone professional can remove the lamination from your documents however, don't try to do it yourself else you will rip off the documents. Be very much careful.
If the interviewer asks you for the originals then it might can cause issues. So, try to get the lamination removed professionally if possible.
