Does CIC communicate via phone call?

Hi guys,

This is regarding my mom's renewal for a permanent residence card.
She mailed it via courier on March 15th if I can recall correctly and she has not gotten any letter that says they have already received it since except for a voicemail saying that they got the wrong Client ID written on the receipt.
Now I'm really not sure if it is legit because the person on the other line did not introduce herself properly.
She only introduced her name and that she received the "request" without elaborating on what request that was and which institution she's calling for. I just wanted to ask if CIC communicates via phone call.

Yes they do. That's why you have to provide phone number in application.

You received a call, did you look up the phone number? Were you requested to call back? I don't find it too hard nowadays to find out if a call is legit.

I did actually and there is not much information about the phone number.
They did request to call back or leave the Client ID via voicemail.
The thing is that the number is from Ontario. I'm not sure how the system works because I know that applications are sent to NS.

Either call back ask they provide you an email to where you can send the client ID or call CIC give them the phone number and ask they verify its legitimacy. I am not sure why a CIC officer would call to get the number when they can get it from their internal system.

They do, but very seldom. Usually email and regular mail.
