Does 183 day rule still apply?

Hi All,
I read in many internet pages that permenent residents lose their status if out of Canada for more than 183 days.
This is under the Canadian Immigration Act.
Is this true or has the law been modified now?

The law was changed in 2002 it is now that you have to reside in Canada for 2 years in every 5 period.
