Documents Translation in Home Country VS Canada

Hello Friends,

I was wondering if getting the documents translated in Canada will provide any extra confidence to the VO. Yesterday I checked with some of the certified translators in Canada and they charge 50 - 70 CAD per document which I believe is too much and we can get the same done in our home country for may be 5 CAD...

So wanted to have thoughts from Seniors who have got their PR as to what should we do.....

If translating the documents in Canada will improve the confidence of the VO it will be worth spending this money...else we can/should get it translated from our home country...

Please suggest.....

Having your documents translated in Canada will make no difference compared to cases translated in other countries. It is worth doing if only you are sure these documents will be required in Canada later on by the organizations which want to see locally made translations. But usually you never know in advance, so generally there's no need to pay 10 times more.

I have mine translated and certified at home mainly due to the cost and convenience. I had no problem with my applications. As mentioned above I don't see translation in Canada will make a difference. As long as you satisfy all their requirements for the translation and certified by officials you will be good to go. Thanks...I will make sure that its as per their requiremnet i.e. having an affidavit from the Translator and Certified copy of the original document....

On another note, would you have the contents of the affidavit that i should get from the Translator....

Look for "translator's affidavig" in the internet, there are a lot of examples. Generally all translation agencies know what it is and what to write there. Please note that the translator should have an appropriate license or certificate to do this work.

They usually write something like "I, <Name Surname>, a licensed translator fluent in both English and <native language>, hereby confirm that the above translation made by myself is correct, accurate and complete. <date, signature, name>" - and the same text in your native language

The main difference is that if you do it in Canada it is only a certified transaltion while if done abroad it should be a notarized translation.

Certified translations are simpler, quicker and cheaper than notarized ones. When done in Canada the translator ID is already in their system so CIC doesn't do any further research, they just use the translation. As they can't do this with translations done abroad they have to go into an extra stage on asserting the validity of both the translator and the legality of the document (the notarization seal). Once done they continue the process.

Generally speaking all professional services in Canada are expensive, so it might be the case even a notarized translation done abroad is cheaper than a certified translation done in Canada. Your decision completely.


** My advice is to do it in Canada. The notarized translation will take longer to get asserted and there is a chance that it might be rejected if there is something fishy in the abroad process. Yeah it might be cheaper to do it abroad, but TBH they take long enough to reach a decision to even give them more reasons to take longer. (Funny we come to Canada for the better salaries and standard of living but we want to look for ways to dodge the expenses that make that possible).

When I submitted my police certificate the instruction says "original + certified translation".
I submitted the original police certificate + translation (done here in Canada by a certified translator, cost me 55 dollars). CIC rejected it by saying its not sufficient.
I then went back to the same police office and had them issue me another certificate (the same as previous one), this time I did the notary and translation in my home country - they accepted it.
Even I finished my landing, I still don't understand what "not sufficient" means.

Sounds weird... I didn't provide notarized copies whenever originals were required. I merely asked the translating agency to provide an official translation, attach it to the original document and provide an affidavit (Hereby I certify this is a complete, accurate blahblahblah translation). Let's see if it works.
