Hi folks,

I have a pile of documents to be translated and I know I will have to pay big bucks to have them translated from Portuguese to English. But I came across this gentleman who is a Chaplain at a Catholic high school and he is proficient in Portugues. He has agreed to translate all my documents and to certify them with the Notary Public. I am concerned that CIC might not accept the docs because he is not a professional translator. My question is:

1. Does the translation have to be done by a professional translator or can any one who is proficient in a language do the translation and make oath to have the documents Notarized.
2. If it has to be done by a translator, does the translator have to be certified?

Cheers!!

By the way, I intend to have all the documents Notarized.

I would say translation work should only be given to those companies that expertise in the translation field. There are software available in the market that can easily do translation but most of the software fails in quality. What they do is only find the synonyms of the word and get it replaced. Anybody who is in the business of translation has to be certified.

Hi Tarry

Yes the Translations have to be certified by an accredited translator, with either the original if PCC or then notarized copy attached, the more documents you have the cheaper it is generally, we had several Spanish documents that needed translating and used this company: http://www.amanara.co.uk/ who translate all languages.

It was simple and starightforword and not too costly and I know the more you have the cheaper it gets, we had the documents scanned and emailed to this company who then sent us the certified translation back within 10 days and then notorized or sent originals in the case of police check to CIC.

Hope this helps, might be worth emailing and getting a quote, they answer really quickly.
Good Luck
