Ive been on social assistance for the past 5 years. I will be starting my new job this september i will be working hard and marrying my bf in december than apply for sponsorship in january so we can finally live together uninterrupted. I love him very much and will do anything to be with him but are our chances of denial through the roof in this case?

Even if you're off welfare, you still need to call to confirm that you've been removed from their welfare database, we've seen people here who've been refused for taking assistance despite being off it because they didn't have their names removed.

Either way, I don't think this will affect you too much, as long as you continue to be gainfully employed. Normally lack of employment isn't a reason for refusal, but definitely an inability to support your spouse will be a reason for refusal, and for someone who has been on assistance for so long, definitely some employment will be crucial to avoid refusal.

Any specific reason for you to get social assistance for this long? If you have a valid reason, it might help your case. Or you just decided to get a work because you want to sponsor your husband?

I was battling severe depression and social anxiety for many years. it was thru a chance meeting of my current boyfriend thats transformed me into the woman that i am today. With him i feel i can do anything.

Instructions say if you're not employed, explain how you supported yourself, you'll just have to say you were on assistance.

Should i mention my reasoning or would that hurt my application?
