Do the photos for the medical examination have to be immigration sized?

Hi,

So I booked an appointment to get a medical tomorrow, and am trying to figure out how not to waste money on the photos I need to bring. My region-specific guide calls for 5 recent photos, but it is not clear what size these need to be. I realize you need immigration photos for IMM 0008 Generic, but what about the medical examination? The doctor's office couldn't give me an answer to it, so this is my last resort. Shoppers drug mart's photo lab can take immigration photos, but they charge $9.99 for a pair of them, and I don't want to purchase the total 13 photos I need at that price! So I'm thinking maybe the doctor doesnt need actual immigration photos and I can get away with something cheaper?

Thanks.

Hi!

This totally depends on the DMP. You need to ask them to specify the size and number of photos they need. I needed passport sized.

What region specific form did you look at because the one I looked at is very specific. Appendix B - photo specifications.

ETA.... they are not immigration sized but more like the Canadian Passport size

I had very specific size specifications for the medical photos, check your appendix.

I'm using the Western European region guide, and in Appendix B they specify the requirements of the immigration photos, but it is not at all clear whether the DMP requires these.
In the guide to immigration it only says:
"5 recent photos, taken within six months preceding the date of your examination"

Bonbon9: I asked them and they did not give me an answer. She said "some people bring big photos and some people bring small" and that I would have to check with CIC. However, I just can't seem to find accurate information in any of the guides, and my appointment is at 9:15 am tomorrow, so I need to get this done. The annoying thing is that immigration photos are $9.99 for two, and I already need 8 for form IMM 0008 generic and don't want to waste any more money on this type of photo unless I can avoid it. I have not double checked with the photo lab at shoppers drug mart whether passport photos are cheaper, but I assume so and would prefer to get them for my medical if they are, but at the same time I don't want to mess things up and give them photos they won't accept.

I used passport photos for all of mine. I'm not sure if that's necessary in your case or not. However, my two cents would be to error on the side of caution. The last thing any of us wants is a returned application!

Good luck! :)

Oh my, that's so expensive!!

Check this website : http://www.epassportphoto.com/

I did all my photos through that website. What I did was:

1) Go to a professional photographer and asked them to take a pic of myself with the white background, and paid for the file.
2) Used that program to get the correct size of photos
3) Printed them in high quality paper at any photography (4x6 prints), then cut them myself carefully. I saved so much money!

So I recommend doing this for the immigration ones. Are you doing your medicals in Canada? Did they give you a number of photos at least?

I suggest you:
Create your immigration sized photo with IDPhoto4You website.

This site is better than epassporthoto!
IDPhoto4You uses face detection.
It has a rotatable crop frame.
With this tool you can create simple sized photo or many kind of print sized photo.
Use simple size if you need a photo for send via email etc.!
Built in 73 country standards!
Brightness is adjustable.
The best is it completely free!

When i asked the same question to CIC there answer was 'if there are no specifications for the pictures, then you can bring anything. When they need documents conform to a standard it will be clearly laid out'. (paraphrased).

My husband hasn't gone for the medicals yet, and won't be until after our application is submitted, but i think his pictures will just be whatever was the cheapest option at the photographer.

Good luck - I'm sure whatever you chose to do will be fine, but let us know!
