Do my children require Canadian citizenship/passports?

Hello,

I'm looking for some advice please. My children and I are Australian citizens with Australian passports. My wife is a Canadian citizen with Canadian passport and we wish to visit Canada in a few months time. We all reside in Australia.

Questions:

• Is it necessary for my children to apply for Canadian citizenship to enter Canada temporary?
• Do they also need Canadian passports?
• Can they enter Canada temporarily on an Australian passport like myself with a Canadian ETA?

My children and I entered Canada in 2014 with Australian passports along with my wife using her Canadian passport however since then, I understand there have been some Canadian law changes. My preference would be for my children not having to apply for Canadian citizenship and/or Canadian passports.

If they have Canadian citizenship, they must enter travel to and enter Canada with Canadian passports, even if they are dual-nationality.
