Do IEC participants need a Social Insurance Number??

Ok - friend got here from the UK and has her work permit in her passport....the payroll firm seem happy to proceed with the work permit but I just want to make sure she doesn't need a SIN??

I've looked online and can't see anything saying that she needs it - anybody been through this before??

She needs, otherwise the employer can't remit taxes, EI, or CPP. She goes to a Service Canada office with her passport and IEC work permit and applies for a SIN. She will be given the no. immediately, the card will follow in the mail.
