I submitted my application in oct to buffalo and then I got an email that it has been forwarded to Ottawa.
Later I got an email to do medicals, then 2 weeks later an email that my application was refused or does not meet the requirements. Anyway with that said, I am in a new profession now as a n insurance agent with sun life financial and this will qualify for another application after 1 year experience.

My issue is that there is a no education for professional upgrade on the post- graduate work permit. For me to be an insurance agent, I had to study (on my own) and write an exam for my license. Would that be considered as education for another refusal when I do apply in another year. My post graduate work permit expires in June 2013.

All inputs will be greatly appreciated.
Thank u all

Sorry to hear that man. But wht's the reason of refusal? was it your NOC, your type of work, that doesn't fall into class 0,A or B? You need to provide a little more info for some input. And yeah if your previous work experience was in any of the above classes 0,A or B and even if you change professions, it should be counted towards your application. But remember this is important only SKILL LEVEL 0,A or B.

Was it rejected because you don't have 1 year expereince yet or because of your class of work?

Thanks for ur comment umariz. I had 2 positions that made my 1 year work experience so I decided to place myself under the administrator class but was later advised that my positions fall under noc 1434. Whatever be the case, my application was rejected because' according to my job descriptions I fall under a class C & that does not qualify. So yes, I was rejected because they believe u don't fall under noc a, b or o.

Now, I'm in the noc 6231. Would I qualify to reapply in Jan 2013, even though I had to study for the licence which I got in october 2011.

Thank u for all the help everyone

Check the above link, accordign to that your 6231 category should fall in skill type "B" and you should be good. But rememebr if your previous jobs were not in either 0,A or B, then you need to complete one full year as an Insurance agent(6231) before you can apply. If you will apply before completing one year in any of skill level 0,A or B, unfortunately they will reject you again. So make sure you complete one whole year of 6231 experience before you make another application.

Good Luck!:)

Thanks again for the comment. Yes I will have to work for another year soni can reapply. However if u have a postgraduate work permit, there is a restriction on professional education n learning for professional stuff. I don't know if it applies to like doing a masters or phd for career advancement?

well if you have a post-graduate work permit, which i have too, it clearly says there you cannot study and cannot enroll in a college or university and I would suggest you should not, otherwise that can create a problem. But what exactly you are tyrin to do? Masters or PHD?

I think you're asking 2 questions -

1) Is it OK to do professional education and licensing while on a PGWP?

2) Does the "trainee" / pre-licensure work experience "count" ?

I think the answer to both is YES, given this info for the NOC code:

"On-the-job training and insurance industry courses and training programs are provided and are required for employment."

Sorry if I am not clear enough. I completed my bachelors degree in business finance at a Canadian school (York university) in 2010.

I have to change jobs as my previous job (as a transfer specialist) was classified under the 'C' class which was the basis for the rejection.

Now I have a new job as an insurance agent, however to become an Agent, I had to get an LLQP licence to be able to advise clients on their insurance needs.

Now the question is, will me studying and writing my license test qualify as education for professional upgrade.

Hi ariatower - I understand the situation, but not the question. Can you please explain why you are concerned about "education for professional upgrade" - I don't see the relevance to CEC.
