Hi all,

I have a degree in Business Information Systems and have work experience in this field. The big problem with any application I make is that, as I had been in college part-time and receiving subsidy from the English government (thus making it illegal for me to hold a full time job), I had been working cash in hand for a relations IT company. I realize now this was a mistake because even though I have over 3 years professional work experience in this area, officially I only have 9 months experience in this field. Are these 2 years I've done of absolutely no benefit to me as far as the Canadian government is concerned for the application? I could obviously provide written letters from my manager saying I worked there but I'm guessing this would be of little benefit. I believe I would qualify under one of the categories of the skilled workers programme if it was eligible but I doubt that it would be. I am currently in Vancouver on a 1 year open work visa that will expire in 2 months and am currently not working here. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the swift response. I believe I would qualify under this category for the work I did at the IT firm, since I managed all of the companies information systems for about a year and a half and directed the activities of one other employee for a period of about 10 months - 1 yr thus I guess making me a manager of sorts.

Thanks rupeshhari,

After reading the criteria of this category I believe I do qualify but as I mentioned I would only qualify if the 2 years of work I did for the IT firm would be admissible. I can provide written letters from the employer stating my exact role and function in the company but as it was cash in hand there are no government records to prove that I worked there and obviously this is the problem. I assume when the Canadian government processes my application they will not only go on the evidence I will provide (which will be legitimate from the employer) but surely they will check also with the English government for official tax information on me and see that the work I did there was not included in this? I am 99% sure that this work experience I have is of no use to the Canadian government for any application I make but I'd appreciate any comments or glimmers of hope on it anyways.

Thanks rupeshhari, but surely the Canadian government would conduct a thorough independent investigation of the information provided otherwise what stops anyone from submitting false pay-slips, tax returns, employer references, etc ????? To verify the information they must have some contact with a foreign government's tax records surely?

i think they'll check with all govenment agencies rgarding your records.

in the last page of schedule 1, we signed an authority to disclose information with the application. which states that by signing the form, you consent to release to the canadian government authorities all records and any government agency about you.
