Do I need US passport?

I am a PR of Canada and have been for the past 16 years. I am applying for citizenship. I am a US citizen, but have an old expired passport that I do not use. Will i need a new, valid US passport when I am applying for citizenship, or are the expired ones acceptable? Mine have been expired for the past 10 years and I haven’t bothered updating them

You don't need to have a valid passport from your home country to apply for Canadian citizenship, however, you may have to explain why you didn't renew it. I am guessing your didn't travel outside Canada during these years?
