Hi,

my mom is trying to buy a property in Quebec. I am currently awaiting for my PR in Ontario but my mom would like to retire in Quebec. Can i still sponsor her even though i will be living in Ontario? Or do i have to be residing in the province when i apply for the sponsor.

If not, does she need an address in Ontario before she can relocate to Quebec. Also i understand that its quite the process to sponsor a parent but we are in no rush as long as we can acquire the property.

Thank you

Yes - you can sponsor her (if and when you qualify and are selected). Where she ends up living is up to her.

Note that parent sponsorship applications are limited each year (i.e. only a limited number of applications are accepted). To qualify, you need to meet the minimum income requirement from a job in Canada for three years straight. Also, you have to be selected (either through a lottery or on a first come first serve basis). There are always far more individuals wanting to sponsor their parents than spots available. So a bit of a dice role on when you'll be able to submit the application to sponsor her. Some people have been waiting for years and still haven't bene selected.

Make sure she looks into any tax implications of property ownership as a non PR / non citizen.

Thank you. I just know that one requirement for my PR application is to NOT choose Quebec as a province, so i figured that would apply to the sponsor as well but could not find information so thank you for qualifying.

As far as the job goes, i have a pretty low income job (cook) but my mom has a very substantial amount of saved money. Would that count as proof of income to support her? She's saved a lot and her monthly salary is almost 10'000cad and her savings as well. No mortgage would be taken for the house.

Your mom's money cannot be counted as proof of income to support her. But if she gave you money, say buy stock and make a capital gain (together with your salary as a cook) that meets the minimum income requirement, then it will count.

As said above, her savings are irrelevant. It's mandatory that you meet the minimum income requirements on your own through employment in Canada to qualify. Her savings will not be factored into this. Assuming you're single and your mother is as well, you'll need to earn an income in the low $40Ks over the next three years to qualify. Otherwise no dice.
