Do I need to get a new study permit?

Hi everyone,

I have a passport that expires in 2016 and I got a new study permit that expires in the same year. But my home country is implementing a new type of passport and requiring all passports to be renewed. If I renew my passport, do I need a new study permit? I know I don't need it if I can keep my old passport. But I have to give up my old passport.

No, you do not need a new study permit. Your valid study permit but in an expired/cancelled passport is valid for all purpose.

Simply apply for a "replacement visa" once you have a new passport.
