Do I need to apply for extend stay as visitor with sponsorship application?

Hi All

I'm about to mail in the documents to sponsor my wife within Canada. I'm sending an application for open work permit along with sponsorship allocation.

Her visa/stay in Canada expires in June (next month) Should I also separately apply to extend her stay as visitor in Canada, or is that automatically included as part of open work permit application ?

she would be implied status till she receive owp.
no need to extend her visitor visa (must send app before her visa expired and keep the receipt from post office as a proof. )

There is always a chance that your application be sent back and if it happens, your wife will loose her implied status. I'd rather be safe than sorry. Some provinves do not recognise implied status for health benefits and having a valid visitor record allows to the holder to get health care under their Spouse's heath care. I will spend the 100 dollars to keep her safe , just in case ! Did you pay 255.00 for the owp ?

If you decide to extend her stay as a visitor ( i will do it if I was you ) , apply online and show proof of sponsorship submission.
Keep in mind that CIC has returned applications by mistake .

This is exactly what I did, I provided a scanned copy of marriage certificate and the receipt that I paid for sponsorship along with letter of explanation. How do I go about getting health card for her ? I thought that can only happen after first stage ?

It depends on the province you reside. You should wait for her visitor record first but it does not hurt to investigate in the meantime.

My situation is a bit similar. I have just moved here from Australia with my Canadian Wife and 2 Canadian children. I am applying for an Inland spousal Visa but haven't sent it in yet. I am currently recognised as a visitor but want to extend my stay. What's my best move?
