Hello everyone,
I am getting everything ready to send in our forms. I am sponsoring my Danish husband...We are currently living together in Denmark with our 10 month old son. I am on maternity leave from my teaching job, so I have employment to go back to when we go to Canada.
I am wondering if I need my Option C printout...
I have a letter from my employer in Canada stating my salary and how long I have been employed and it also says that I am due back to work July 2013...
I have copies of my T4 and copies of my T4E stating my maternity benefits for 2010 and the part of 2011 that I was working before I had our baby.
So I am wondering if this can substitute for the Option C??
Thanks in advance!

If you have been living outside of Canada for a number of years, and are non-resident for tax purposes, you do NOT NEED to submit the Option C. I have been living outside of Canada since 2001 and the most recent Option C I have is from 1997. I confirmed that I do not need to submit this from both CRA and CIC (the agent at CRA sponsored her husband and she said that CIC will not look at such an old Option C). Remember, they are looking for the most recent tax year, so that would be either 2010 or 2011, depending on whether you have finished your taxes for 2011 and CRA has finished processing your tax info.

What you should do is the following:

1) Write an explanation as to why you are not submitting the Option C;
2) Include any financial / tax information that you do have (i.e. foreign tax assessment if you have been working exclusively outside of Canada for a number of years - in the OPs case, the T4 should be fine);
3) Proof that you have a job offer in Canada - the OP has this, so definitely include it with your application; and
4) Any other relevant information

I have read many, many cases where there was no Option C and I have yet to see anyone have trouble getting sponsorship approval.

Okay, sorry, if you have been earning money in Canada, then yes, you do NEED to submit your Option C. I thought you were working and living abroad for a while...

Still, the info I gave is accurate for those living and working exclusively outside of Canada.
