Hello,

I am a Canadian citizen (I have a citizenship card, social insurance) but I do not have a Canadian passport.

Up to now, I have never needed one since I always used my German passport. Now I can't get an ETA because I'm Canadian. :(

Now I'm planning a trip to Canada. Can I use my German passport to check in at the airport in Germany or will they check whether I have ETA right there? If not, I would check in
as German and then use my citizenship card to enter Canada. ;D I do not want to get a Canadian passport which I only need once every 5 years because of the extra cost.
Alternatively I will fly to the USA and enter Canada that way. Pretty stupid, this new regulation!

Hopefully someone can help me!

Thanks and cheers,
Jivette

I like the regulation, not stupid at all. $160.00 is a small price to pay for a passport valid for 10 years, just saying. I keep both my passports updated, safes a lot of hassle.
