Hello,

We just received our LOI , me and my wife and a friend told us that if we dont get round trip tickets we might only get 6 months instead of 1 year visas.
We dont want to get round trip tickets cause we might want to stay longer , so does anyone know if something like this can happen? Would it be alright if we just have $2500 each or will they need proof of more than that?

well thats not totally a true fact as the CBSA officer 'might' ask to see proof you can buy a return ticket but given airlines generally only issue tickets around max 330 days out from day you book not day you fly out pretty impossible to buy a 12 month return even less so for someone on a 2 year iec. All you should need is the proof of funds 2500 each plus 12 months travel insurance each and if you have couple credit or debit cards as well that will help even if you are ever asked. Not having the insurance though could result in a short IEC permit being issued .http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/iec/arrival.asp

Careful here - your insurance should cover the duration of your intended permit. So if you can get a 24 month permit, you should have proof of 24 months of insurance.

They very rarely check it, however there have been cases where they only issue to your insurance cover expiry.
