Do I Need a Return Ticket for My Child Traveling on a Visitor Visa to Canada?

I’m booking tickets for my spouse and daughter (4 years old). My spouse has a Spouse Open Work Permit (SOWP), and my daughter has a visitor visa. This is their first time entering Canada. I understand that a one-way ticket is fine (?) for my spouse, but do I need to book a return ticket for my daughter since she’s traveling on a visitor visa?

Should be fine. You should really be applying for a study permit for your child.

Thanks for the response.
  1. Isn’t a study permit only for children aged 5 and above?
  2. Do they also require medical insurance?
1. Typically age 4 and above because you start school at age 4.
2. You will need to look at the requirements to receive provincial healthcare in the province for you and your family and if there is a wait period.
