Do I need a notice of assessment (option C)?

Hi there!

I (Canadian) am sponsoring my husband (American). I've lived in Canada my whole life and he's lived in the states. I'm a little confused as to whether I need the notice of assessment, because the way it makes it sound is that I only need it if I have a cosigner. If I do not need it, what do I need to say in a separate letter explaining it?

You will need an option C Printout , you can get it online if you have online access to your CRA account , if you chose not to provide it , you need to include a note explaining the reason behind that .

The wording is just inclusive incase you have a cosigner for other types of sponsorships.

If I'm not mistaken, They've updated the forms they don't do option C anymore it's just the notice of assessment they need. Double check before submitting.

You're right, they changed it in February. It used to ask for an Option-C printout, and now it just asks for a Notice of Assessment.

You must provide a written explanation if you can't provide the Notice of Assessment.

Option C is actually a Notice of Assessment, just more detailed. CIC did change to accept just the Notice of Assessment now, but they also will take the Option C which is printable online. Infact it's called "Option C printout of the Notice of Assessment" ;D

I guess that's true, but I didn't know that when I applied in December. I just called CRA and they mailed it to me, so I didn't need to find alternative means. At the time, I thought this was the only way since the form asks for an "original" Option-C printout.

It's all moot now.

Hey guys!

My wife (sponsor) has been living outside of Canada since October 2013. Should we include her last option C for the application? We have her last notice of assessment from before we left.

We also have our Australian tax return paperwork, as well as 12 months worth of pay slips from her employer here in Australia.

Would that be enough or will they definitely need the option c?

Thanks
