Hi there,

I asked a lot of friends about renewing a work permit, if there is a need for me to get a new lmo or just my old work permit since i am working on the same employer, but I got different opinions from them. Please give me a clarification regarding this matter. My work permit gonna be expire on Feb. this year.

thank you.. :)

You need a new LMO and under new rules you MUST have this before extending your current work visa.

If for whatever reason, you are unable to get a positive LMO before your current visa runs out, you have to stop working and wait for the LMO, then apply for the extension.

When you received your initial LMO did it recommend you to apply for Provincial Nomination after 6 months (mine did). If you apply for and get provincial nomination, your employer doesn't have to get you a new LMO in order for you to renew the TWP.

Plus with the wait times for TWP (same employer) at close to 3 months plus the LMO to get, you need to start the process almost 6 months before your current permit expires.

This depends on the province where you apply. 6 months is for entry level/semi skilled in Alberta. It's 9 months in BC and not all employers are eligible.
