Hi
I received this letter from Abu dhabi embassy.
My question is
If I cancel my residency visa in the UAE , will the Canadian immigration visa be issued?? If I do cancel my residency visa now I'll have a period of 30 days to get my Canadian visa and leave the country.

In order to continue processing your application, we ask that you provide us with the following documents/information:
- Proof that your Canadian Citizen sponsor is currently residing in Canada or will reside in Canada when you become a permanent resident. If your sponsor is currently residing in Canada, please provide copies of Canadian tax documents (Notice of Assessment (NOA), T1 and T4); three (3) recent pay stubs and any other document which proves that your sponsor is living in Canada. If your sponsor is currently residing outside of Canada, we will require satisfactory evidence that they will reside in Canada once you become a permanent resident. Satisfactory evidence would include: copy of cancelled residency permit (in the Gulf); copy of resignation letter showing that it has been accepted by your sponsor's employer; evidence that "end of contract" benefits have been paid; and so on. This will be required before a permanent resident visa can be issued. If your sponsor does not believe that they will be ready to move to Canada when your permanent resident visa is issued, then you may wish to consider withdrawing this current application. Your spouse could then submit a new sponsorship when they are prepared to move to Canada.

- Your original police certificate from the United Arab Emirates issued in the last 3 months. If this document is written in a language other than English or French it must be translated in English or French by a professional translator. The original document must be attached with the translation. For information on how to obtain a police certificate from any country.
If we have asked you to submit an original police certificate(s), and/or photos, please send all required documents together by regular mail or courier. You cannot send police certificates and/or photos by fax or as an email attachment because we require original police certificates/printed photos.
If we have asked you to send us several documents, you are required to submit all the documents together. Do not send documents one at a time. You should include your name and file number (which is indicated in the subject line) in all your correspondence.
You cannot come to the Embassy to submit the required documents in person. Unless otherwise specified, you can send the required documents using one of the following options:

Hi sakoo,

Are you the sponsor? This document is asking for any kind of proof that the sponsor will be willing to move to Canada with the applicant once the visa is issued. What they don't want is for them to issue a visa and both of you live outside the Canada.

A sponsor cancelling their residency is pretty good proof that they plan to return to Canada, but arguably is pretty extreme. You could try sending in proof of significant assets in Canada or any other preparations you've made for your move, including job offers etc. And then send a cover letter that you plan to cancel your residencies and resign once the visa is issued. Perhaps others can clarify what else could constitute as proof.

My case is similar to yours in that I also got this letter and that my sponsor has GCC residency. However, my sponsor is residing in Canada since we got married so all we've had to do is send in proof of enrollment in classes, tax forms and bank statements to prove that she is a resident there. Then I provided some rudimentary preparations I've made for moving to Canada (there's really not much for the applicant to say, I mean its not like they expect you to make major changes to your life before the visa is issued).

hey guys,

just curious :) what kind of preparations u gave (as applicant) for the move to Canada? for sponsor yeah the list can go on and on but for the applicant, considering it will b their first time in Canada it's kind of tricky ::)

us too, we tried to write some things in the cover letter at the applicant side but at the end it's not that much; u cannot cancel a visa if the other is not issued soon...

thank u :)

as for the initial question, show intent that the sponsor will cancel the visa as soon as the applicant's visa is issued; like this, when they r ready to issue the visa they will send u another letter saying that and asking for the sponsor (and maybe even the applicant) to cancel their Gulf residencies....but the letter u got now is not that, it looks they just start processing u; so what u can show: job search in Canada, maybe job offer, enrollment in univ or other classes, lease contract, contact of schools/day care in case u have children, family ties in Ca and no family ties in the Gulf and other things (memberships, bank accounts, loans, credit cards, etc)

We included a lengthy detailed (4-page) document outlining all that needs to be done to separate ourselves from China and then a whole bunch of information on what we will do when we first arrive in Canada. We did not mention anything about canceling my residency visa in China, but I did mention that I can resign from my employer without any trouble because there is an early release clause. I don't think it is necessary to cancel my residency visa at any time...when my wife gets her visa we just leave...I might not even tell my employer (they are known to deduct a lot of money if you give notice...so we'll see how it goes as the time gets closer).

I think as long as you have provided a detailed plan, and perhaps a job offer or documents showing you are actively looking for a house to buy / rent, it shouldn't be a big deal. They will not expect you to make major changes before knowing what's up with the visa...

thanks FS yeah rental agreement we have already and included that; as for me, like u, i have no family here, no ties (except the applicant) and definately i have no intentions of staying; i would leave yesterday ;) and yes me too i had a cover letter like u; but we r the sponsors, i was wondering what more the applicant can say ;)

why ppl worry is because Abu-Dhabi embassy specifically asks to cancel ur visa (either the sponsor or the applicant or both); sometimes they don't but most of the time they do and they won't issue the Canadian visa before that...also throughout the process they will ask of plans to move to Ca and things like that (like in the initial letter)...they r very strict with that i suppose cuz many ppl cheated before - got the Canadian visa but didn't really move there...so they (the officers) learn from past "mistakes"

I see.

Okay, what my wife did was write a 3/4 page account of what she plans to do when she arrives in Canada. This was more geared towards employment, but she also mentioned that we both agree that our son needs his mom at home until he is ready for kindergarten. We mentioned that it is important to both of us that he learns about Chinese culture and language, specifically, Cantonese. For employment, my wife wants to start her own online trading business between China and Canada. She mentioned that she wants to export Canadian manufactured goods to support the Canadian economy, but also because there is a good market in China for imported goods (not going to say what those are :p).

That's really all she can do, but one other thing she mentioned was that she wants to assimilate into Canadian culture and not be like many who arrive in Canada and heavily depend on their own communities (i.e. Chinese moving to Canada and solely relying on other Chinese and not even attempting to assimilate). She went on to mention that her English is near fluent, which it is (thanks to a certain Canadian guy who helped her fine tune things!! :p), so she won't need to depend on anyone to live life...which is a HUGE benefit...as I know many immigrants struggle because of language barriers...

I guess that should be good enough, and it's all the truth. What else could they possibly expect? It's like when I moved to China. There was no way I could have given a detailed account of everything I would end up doing...I had a rough idea and a plan, but most of my learning was by trial and error...now after 8 years, I still haven't really learned it all, but I have established myself...

Other things we mentioned together when I wrote out my proof of intention to re-establish in Canada. Actually, for that, I always used the words "our" for some reason...I guess in some ways I feel like I am also immigrating...but truth be told, I wanted to ensure the VO understands that we are a family and we are moving to Canada for a better life and for our son...no way we would ever want to raise our son here in China...it's just not as good for families as it is in Canada...for some many reasons and on so many different levels.

FS, thanks for writing so long!! we kind of did the same thing, focusing more on employment opportunities, etc...that's really the most important!!! and of course there's no better place like Canada to start and raise a family!! :)

I provided a series of emails to the HR of this company that I may work for once I make it to Canada. I visit Canada quite often (have a visit visa) so I managed to secure an interview and a verbal interest in hiring me once I land. No documentary proof of the offer of course, just emails.

I also mentioned my that I plan to cancel my residency and resign from my current position once I do get my visa.

I consulted a lawyer my sponsor retains and he mentioned that its a good sign that you make it this step. It means they've started processing your file and have not asked for clarification on the authenticity of your relationship with your sponsor, your medical or security records. Once you convince them that you do plan to move, the visa issuing should be quick. He estimates 4-5months (at the Abu Dhabi office) but it's really upto the consulate's discretion. Summer is a pretty busy time for them too.
