Thanks for this.artray said:Depends on whether the calls were from your assigned visa office. They could be legit calls if they were calls from the canadian immigration office of your country of citizenship or country of residence (depending on which office is currently processing your files). Cheers!
Thank you. Noteddan_and said:Many of these calls can be dubious.
If you receive a call like this, ask them for your application / EE profile number. If they can't give it to you, it's a fake call. Don't reveal any information in such a case.
Did they identify themselves as from the Canadian Embassy/Manila VO? There've been some reports here of them doing phone verification, and they also called my relative once to follow up on their medicals. We just took them at their word.LokiJr01 said:I experienced the same thing in Manila.
Someone called regarding the processing of Canadian visa. They were asking for some personal information.
I'm guessing this is just an immigration agency offering their services, but regardless, they should not be asking for personal information.
I agree with the earlier post. If someone is from immigration and they ask for personal info, ask for the EE profile number if they know. You can drop the call if they can't answer that.
Good judgement...definite scam :-Xhadiyawar said:Thanks for this.
I don't have the ITA yet, it was direct call from Canada not from my country of residence.
The person said this is the evaluation process and it will take around 18 months to finish everything, and for evaluation to proceed I'd need to pay $499.
It sounded dodgy when the person mentioned the payment without even me having the ITA, moreover the call was on a weekend.
dan_and said:Scam, 100%. CIC do not call you pre-ITA, and they certainly won't ask for money over the phone.
People need to stop posting their phone numbers publicly on this forum. This is how these fraudsters contact you.
Thanks for sharing the information, Getting the phone number is just a breeze while many people post their numbers publicly here in many threads. Especially whatsapp groups threads.f1ahmed said:Just wanted to share our recent experience. We (me and my wife) both got our PR card already and the process is now completed.
However, my wife received a call from CIC yesterday afternoon. She could not pick up the phone. She again got another call from CIC this morning while sleeping and could not pick it up. She then called back and was able to find someone to talk. The agent asked for the PR card number and told her that her file is absolutely fine and completed and there is no reason CIC should call her.
The agent then told my wife the story: CIC is now receiving a lots of call from PR applicants claiming that someone called them from CIC number and told them they they have provided false information and has been fined by CIC and you have to pay now....(Just could not believe it). The agent told my wife to beware of this call.
The only thing that surprises me is how do they get our phone numbers? Does it mean someone stole the data from CIC database?
Just wanted to share. Please stay safe. Thanks.
