If the applicant gets approved for PR but then gets a divorce with their spouse/sponsor BEFORE you go to Canada to finish the PR process what happens? Can the applicant get banned or in trouble for this? To explain more on the situation:
1. Applicant got approved for PR and needs to go to Canada to do the last step to get their PR card but hasn't done it yet.
2. Divorce might happen between the applicant and sponsor due to the sponsor might having to move to another country for work and the applicant doesn't want to move there.

Thank you for any help and please ask questions if you need something to be cleared up.

You are no longer eligible for spousal sponsorship and should return the visa. The sponsor can cancel the sponsorship at anytime up until you land. If you land and are divorced (or in the process) you are committing misrepresentation and they can revoke your status.

It would be misrepresentation that could result in the applicant having their PR revoked and being banned from Canada for 5 years
