Hello All,

Please help

I got my PR in April 2016 and was married and living with my husband in Canada since 2013(Both Got PR through Express entry OINP),But now we are living separately and will file divorce once 1 yr separation is complete.
Will this effect my PR?
Will i need to have gap if i need to sponsor someone or it does not matter?

It matters when the time of converting your PR into Citizenship. You may face some deficulties for the same I saw many cases.

Alia if you want to smoothly secure your Citizenship of Canada then you may delay the divorce. You and your husband must mutually plan your divorce after getting the Citizenship. I understand this is not written anywhere in the Immigration policies that you must be in relationship till you getting the Canadian Citizenship.

For my personal view we tried hard to get the Canadian PR then why to put our status in trouble. Better to wait for Citizenship then you are free to do anything as you required.

Hope this helps you. Inshallah everything will be fine.

Divorce has absolutely no impact on citizenship. Please stop misdirecting people.

I think you are misdirecting the peoples. I clearly state that it's my personal view and also suggested that there is no such policies.

I think you better understanding what difficulties you will face after divorce and what changes you have to made in the documentation part for example (Passport, Marriage Certificates, Immigration Records & etc.) And if you have childrens then everyone knows what diffculties a man and women has to face after the divorce in foreign countries. Increasing Stars and likes not proves that you are 100% correct and dam sure about the subject. Again I am telling it's just my personal opinion about the divorce nothing else and no immigration/citizenship policies there and also agrees there is no impact of the PR and Citizenship.

In this case, divorce will have absolutely no effect on your PR or citizenship. You were not sponsored and you spent 3 years with your husband after getting PR.

You could say maybe possibly if you had immigrated on your husbands back (him as the principal applicant) and immigration became aware that you were already separated and heading for divorce at the time you landed as a PR that your PR would be at risk or if you were sponsored and they became aware that you never lived with your sponsor but this is not the case here.

Please tell us about cases where divorcees had problems getting citizenship. Were they sponsored or did they immigrate with their spouse? How soon after getting PR did they divorce?

I don't know of any such cases although as I said before, it might be a possibility depending on the situation, for example when a sponsored person never lived with their sponsor etc.

Yes I know you are the Citizenship officer.....go ahead and carry on to approve divorce cases. :D I think you don't have work to do.
Buddy...I dont understand how you can talk like that...that too, with such senior members...

they go out of their way to help us and providing guidance...

you stated your opinion which is fine...but dont take people for granted and say such stuff here...just coz others maintain their dignity thru silence, doesn't mean you can say whatever you like

@Leon I was married in 2013 but we got PR in 2016 only under Express OINP .so technically after PR some time later we got separated
And heading to get divorce one year later. We were in relation for 3 years but due to personal reasons i am getting divorce .
I do not know if he is primary applicant and i am considered sponsored :(
