Hi,

I am still waiting for my oath ceremony, but I started looking into passport application process.

One of the fields in the application asks for my mother's maiden name.
I am wondering if I should use the actual spelling of her maiden name, which includes some diacritics,
or simplified spelling with Latin characters only. Fortunately my own name is simple ;)

The character I am worried about is "Ł", which I could also write as an "L" to simplify things.

I was looking for any information about it, but I can't find anything.

Does anybody have any experience with that?

Thanks!

Knowing that you are an experienced poster I am not sure how much this helps, but you can Have a look at the following links.

MRZ = Machine readable zone
MRC = Machine readable chip
VIZ = Zisual inspection zone
GCMS = global case management system

1) Naming procedures: Documents used to establish name records by business line
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/id/name/documents.asp
2) Naming procedures: Names structures and how to record them in GCMS
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/id/name/gcms.asp
3) Naming procedures: How to read travel documents (MRZ, MRC, VIZ)
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/id/name/travel.asp

If its good for GCMS then thats how they will use them.
