Hello everyone,
I am a OINP masters grad recently received nomination for PR and had a couple of questions regarding non-accompanying family members such as parents and brother(around 22 yrs) -
1) my dad works in the UAE and mother is a home maker and not financially dependant on me rather the opposite is true for now. They plan to get pr thru me but are NOT accompanying me currently and potentially could plan to accompany in a couple of years. Do I still have to add them as dependants on my PR profile? if so it should be non-accompanying rit?
2) Do i add my brother too under dependants ? he is studying currently(not in canada) and not dependant on me financially and is over 18 yrs old. Any assistance as soon as possible is appreciated. thanks!

Thanks a lot for the speedy reply! just a small confusion, doesnt it say on the dependants IMM008 form "You must also include details on family members if you don’t know where they are (even those missing or presumed dead). If you don’t list them on your application, you will not be able to sponsor them later if your situation changes. "? I have added family info but just not in the dependants tab if it means just to add family members info.

According to IRCC, only your dependent children (single and under age 22) and your spouse/common law partner are you immediate family members.

your parents and siblings are NOT your family member under IRCC. I am not familiar with your specific stream but I think the additional family members should be listed in your IMM 5406 form.

So do not add your parents or sibling in IMM0008. And yes, you cannot sponsor them in the general terms.

Parents and Grandparents have a specific category and currently the PGP sponsorship has been put on hold.
No new interest to sponsor form are being accepted since 2020 and no new application will be accepted in 2025.
Previous few years applicants were picked from a lottery system from the 2020 pool.

Also you won't be able to sponsor your siblings in general except some very extreme cases.

Your dependants are spouse and children under 22. Your parents and brother are not your dependants.

As others have pointed out there is a specific parent sponsorship program. You and your parents should be aware that parent sponsorship is far from guaranteed and there are significantly more parents who apply versus spots available. They need to have a plan b if moving to Canada is not possible.
