Can anybody comment on the effect of medical examination on the approval / rejection of a sponsorship application,
in this case a spousal sponsorship.

In particular, would someone in otherwise good health who is very heavy pass or fail medical?
No disease or medication or significant medical history.

Obesity would have no bearing on a spousal application.

okay good, so I've been reading further on the website - I found the Designated Medical Practitioner Handbook

I'm a Canadian citizen filing application to sponsor my spouse as Permanent Resident.
It is correct then to say he is in the category called Excessive Demand Exempt?
The chart shows the doctor will complete a form IMM 1017 EFC + the Appendix C from the kit.

I've told him to get the medical before I file, though he thought he could do the medical exam later. I want him to do it now and
send me the Appendix C to file with the application. He is applying from Out of Country, from his home country.
I live only in Canada.

Spousal sponsorship (FAM Class) must include the Medical exam with the initial application, if it is not included the application could be returned to you as incomplete therefore wasting atleast a months wait time. Yes, all FAM Class applications are excessive demand exempt, he will still have to pass as far as not having any communicable disease and if he does they must be treated properly before they will issue his visa. They have changed how they now do medical exam's I dunno that they do the appendix C any longer but in any case he will receive something from the DMP that needs to be sent in with the application it will make matching up the application to the Medical exam possible even if it is just a receipt with a number on it... Good Luck!

I tried to get my Medical exam done (early Nov 2012) before spousal pr application and the doctors office said they could no longer take forms that do not have the validated bar code on the top from CIC. That I would have to receive the form from Canada before I have my exam. Hmmm
