Hello,

Firstly, the responses in this forum have been such a great source of info in preparing my EOI and now completing my ITA, so thank you to all who support this forum and good luck to all who are in progress!

Please can someone help me - I've read so many threads looking for an answer to this question my eyes hurt!

I have a period of travel to contend with. I left my job in the UK in Aug 2009 and traveled in the USA for a few months (Aug 2009 to October 2009) and then went to Canada (October 2009) on a working holiday visa and got a job in November 2009. Please can you advise how I should complete the 'State' and 'Town' detail in the Personal History section - I visited lots of different States and towns during my time in the US - should I just select one and give further detail in a LOE? Or do I need to list every one??

The other part of the question is - in my Address History section what should I put as my address for this period? Do I need to list every hostel, hotel and campsite I ever stayed in?! Or leave it as my UK address for that period and add a LOE?? Or leave a gap (which it says not to do) between my UK address and the Canadian address I had once I settled? Any help you can give would be massively appreciated!

Many thanks,

Emma

On the second question - my gut feel was that it would be totally hideous and unrealistic to list all addresses while you are travelling. 99% of people wouldn't remember all the details or keep a tracking list of all the hotels, lodging places, airbnb, friend's apartments, etc. It's just too hideous. My personal view, and certainly more experienced people should chip in, is to list the 'residential addresses', where you stay for a period of time longer than a few nights. For instance, if you showed that you worked in another city/state/country for some time or went to college for 4 years, it logically implies that you had lived at a place different from your previous ones. In such case, a different address is expected.

Meanwhile if during that extensive travel period you were still technically 'registered' under your home address in UK, it's probably okay to list that UK address and use an LOE to explain where you were travelling.

Wish to see other people's thoughts as well since I am also going through the same tasks.

Hi Danny,

Thanks so much for your reply. I think you are right about using my UK address and a LoE for the time I was in the USA. I didn't really settle anywhere for longer than a week until I got to Canada, so maybe I will just put my next address as the one I moved in to when I found work. If anyone has any other ideas however, please do say!

Now I just need to figure out the personal history dilemma - can anyone please help with that bit???! Maybe another LoE - can you have too many LoEs??!!

Best wishes,

Emma
