Hello Experience colleagues,

I am from Nigeria, married with 2 children.

I have just been admitted to the University of Manitoba for a 4 years degree program (Bsc. Computer Science) and a standardized letter for Canadian study permit application dated 27th April, 2015 is also sent to me showing the Start Date of my program, CAD $ 14,200 tuition fee for Year 1 and CAD $ 11,500 annual living expenses.

I have visited CIC for the Study Permit requirements. To follow their requirements which only includes application form, admission letter, travel experience and proof of fund will be too basic based on all i have read from blessed experts of this great and helpful forum.

Therefore, I will appreciate if our experts here can assist with their priceless experience on what to do to file a COMPLETE application and stand a chance of been approved. I will also like to go with my wife and 2 children. So I will like to know how much CAD $ am expected to have? Should I pay the tuition fee for Year 1 in full and how should this be paid? I read about moving funds to Canadian Bank as proof of finance. How do i open a Canadian Bank account? Also am a Bank of America account holder because I travel to the US at least ones every year. Can my BofA account serve the purpose for a Canadian Bank Account?

The above are just limited questions I got based on the several posts have read on this forum. So all assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Since you are goingwith3 persons... You need to show at least the following..

1. Tuition for at least the first years.
2. 10000 CAD for your living expenses
3. 4000 CAD for a second family member (wife).
4. 3000 CAD for each additional member (2 kids)

Which means for you: Tuition + 20000 CAD, this is the minimum.. Of course if you have more money it's obviously better then...

You can pay tuition in advance, but if not it's not a problem.

Sometimes universities give you the chance to make a wire transfer to send money there to be used when you go to canada which is not the same as paying tuition in advance but you should contact University for that.

Dear Wolfpmd3,

Many thanks for your prompt and direct response. I have also visited the link you sent and will email the school asap.

Is there any document (i.e cover letter) that will be of assistance? Also can my BofA account be of any help here in term of having some fund in a foreign bank.

Thanks in advance.

You can attach almost anything to your application... so if you want a cover letter or statement of purpose will make it....

And of course as many proof of financial support will work great

Noted boss.

What is Statement of Purpose? Can you kindly provide me with sample copy of both cover letter and statement of purpose.

Thanks boss.

Its only a little statement where you tell your VO why are you planning to study something... what are your goals... what are your plans for the future with it...

I cant provide any samples.... That s up to you... You should write it according to your circumstances

Hi pally, I am in the same shoe with you, I am a Nigerian residing in UAE, I am applying for study permit for Master degree in Canada for Fall 2015 academic year from Abu Dhabi visa office and will be accompanied by my spouse and We applied May 7.

Based on my own findings on paperworks and requirements, I think you need more than all you listed. since you are going with everyone in your family, you will need to have a proof of strong tie to home country. Fine, you have a good travel history but this time, you need more than that to prove to the immigration officer than you will be returning home after study.

Secondly, since you are going for a program more than one year in Canada, how do you intend to fund your tuition and living expenses for yourself and the rest of your family for subsequent years? You need to sponsorship/ source of funding for the rest of your studies years.

More so, you might also need to apply for open work permit for your wife and not job a TRV. Please try to get a paper work completed, I bet you dont want to waste money on your application which I think you will be spending close to $1000CAD as you are applying from Nigeria,

The salutation 'pally' sounds close and homely. It also gives a sense of relationship. @Wolfpmd3 have really tried but am also expecting other gurus like you to assist and this is the reason why am not rushing to apply until i feel comfortable and readily ready as am not ready to waste a kobo and my precious time as well. We've got so much similarities and I believe this will help me a great deal.

I had all you wrote in mind and that's the reason for my title for this post 'Detailed Study Permit Application / Documentation'. So bro, you will now have to help me breakdown some of your points for better clarifications. How do i proof strong tie to my home country? I have actually been saving towards this plan and should be able to raise CAD $ 200,000 from my savings/investments here, cant this be enough as I also intend to apply for open work permit for my wife which will enable her work while i study.

Also after the first year, I may qualify for coop which enables me to work while i study.

How far with your application as well Can I have your email address so I can send you my #.

Thanks.

EXPERIENCED MEMBERS IN THE HOUSE PLS SUPPORT THIS POST SO I CAN HAVE A HANDFUL OF INFORMATION. THANKS ALL IN ADVANCE.

Home tie is just to prove to the CIC officer handling your application that you have something to fall back on should you have to leave Canada at the end of your authorized stay. So in my own view, they dont want people to go and become illegal resident/migrants in case they cant secure employment or gain legal resident status at the end of their stay which will eventually become a burden on Canadian government. To avert this, the CIC officer will scrutinize every applicant to their satisfaction before they let them in.

Did I hear you right you have investment/saving plan worth $200,000, if I am right, then, you can go along with your parent (thats on a lighter mood). Just ensure that you have the minimum required for tuition+living expenses for you and your accompanying dependent for at least 1year in cash in your bank account, then your investment/saving plan certificate will cover for subsequent expenses and home tie. Should you own any real properties, you can add the documents as proof.

Now, with the new study permit rule, you can work parttime during academic semester and full time during break. Coop/internship depends on your program of study, so I cant say much on that. If you are able to secure open work permit for your wife, that will make life easier for you over there. we applied early this month, the processing time here is between 3-6weeks for study permit and up to 4months for work permit which can be more or less.

I wish you best of luck in your application. You can inbox me your number by messaging me via my profile here as well to communicate better on whatsapp.

'will exclusive , did you say four months for work permit? please do you mean open work permit for his wife? if yes, that means is it better applying separately for his wife open work permit or they apply together because of the difference in the processing times. your inputs please .Thanks.

I dont think that will influence delay in study permit. When we went to submit our application, the officer said the applications are linked together and arranged in same file but will be treated as separate application as study permit will fall within study permit processing time and open work permit might fall within or lesser than work permit processing time. He said it depends on the discretion of the officer handling the case as both are connected. So based on this, I cant say much.
