I am new to the board and have a question, I do not have my passport which because it was destroyed in the washing machine. I had made copy's of the important pages because this happened once before. I also have a Nexus card which is the only thing I used to go to the US, which I am a citizen of that country. They ask for your passport when you take your Citizenship test, would my Nexus Card and photos of passport along with maybe bank statements to prove I have been in Canada suffice? My passport that was destroyed was expired in January 2010 anyway, and I do not have a current one beacuse I have had no reason to go to the US since. Thank you again for any help.

This info might help. I believe if your passport was destroyed you can not apply to renew by mail. You must apply in person.

Hi Rich_C - you need your passport for the purpose of matching stamps to your list of absences from Canada that you declared when submitting the citizenship application. I have a Nexus card too and that made an issue since there were no stamps in passport to compare and CIC cannot retrieve Nexus records (amazing ha?! immigration is not communicating with immigration...)

My suggestion to you based on my experience is:
1. You must have a passport (if you have copies of old one - that is great, bring it along but you still have to show a valid passport)
2. Take a picture of your destroyed passport to prove it was destroyed
3. Try to get a list of entries/exists from the Nexus office - this might save you getting the RQ

good luck!
