Hi Friends,

Just considering to buy health insurance for the first 3 months before landing. Just compared Destinations Canada and Travelance insurance.

Destination has only 500$ for prescription drugs and Travelance has 1,000$. So, thought of going with Travalence.

Any comments? Thanks

Prescription drugs are not that expensive in Canada. $500 should be enough unless you have ongoing medical issues.

Manulife and Destination Canada are more popular with new immigrants. Never dealt with Travalence. When I was renewing Private insurance of my daughter recently then my insurance broker advised me to take Travalence based on same criterion - Travalence has $1000 prescription provision. I refused since I had never heard off Travalence and went ahead with Destination Canada.

Just FYI, These private insurances only cover emergencies and it's very rare. Are you expecting to file any claims during those 3 months? If yes, then go with Manulife. Destination Canada claims process is painful. They take too much time and ask for too many documents. Manulife on the other hand allows online upload of invoices and reimbursement process is very fast.
