Spouses of international students are entitled to Open Work Permits. Maybe I don't understand what a fellowship is, is that like a post-doctorate or something research related-type-of-thing? If not, I'm sorry and someone less ignorant can reply. But if he is doing academic stuff and he can get a study permit, you can come with him and work in any job you'd like.

I don't know how dependants work, but I would assume if both their parents are allowed in Canada, they will too. I would suggest you post your question in the "foreign workers" section of the forum, as I've seen a lot of threads on spouse open work permits there.

Please post your question in the international student thread forum. This thread deals primarily with PR sponsorship through family (spousal/dependent/PGP.

He is a doctor who is doing his fellowship , where he is does his studies along with a stipend payment . I guess this is why his visa is a work permit rather than a students visa .Applying for an open work permit would require a job offer, rt? I happened to come across forums which suggest spouse of similar case to apply for a temporary visa . How long would a temporary visa be valid? And how long (approx) would the processing take place?

You can apply for a spousal open work permit on the basis of your husband's work permit. You don't need to have a job offer upfront. Your SOWP would expire the same time your husband's WP does. If you don't need a temporary resident visa (TRV) to come to Canada, then you can apply for the SOWP at the port of entry when you arrive but make sure you have all the necessary supporting documents.

Which visa is more easier to obtain Temporary resident or Spouse Open work permit ? Can my kids do their schooling by applying temporary resident visa for them? What is the processing time for both types of visa? Can i change my TRV to SOPW after entering Canada with ease?Is it advisable to do our medicals upfront? Can you advise me where i can apply for visa online?

I would recommend that you apply for the SOWP rather than just the TRV. My unscientific study seems to suggest that SOWPs are more successful, as it's more likely that you want to join your husband to work as long as he does, rather than just visit for a short while and leave for your home country.

Can my kids do their schooling by applying temporary resident visa for them?
Yes.

What is the processing time for both types of visa?
See: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/inFORMation/times/index.asp

Can i change my TRV to SOPW after entering Canada with ease?
It's doable but the first challenge will be to get the TRV.

Is it advisable to do our medicals upfront?
Sorry, don't know enough about this to answer.

Is work permit same as open work permit under TRV? Where can i apply for SOWP? Can you help me with the docs i would need to produce and carry if we are to apply for SOWP and TRV. My husband has an account and a GC key with the portal. Should each applicant have different accounts or can we use his account to apply?
