Dependent parents ...

Hi Senior Members,

I am worried about my father as he is sixty plus having critical health conditions (overweight, diabetic and on pacemaker). I came to know that I can not take him with me as same medical tests are required for dependent parents. To such cases only a maximum of three months visa will be granted, however, anything beyond that is nearly impossible.

This has really impacted my plans cause I was planning to take my parents there once I get settled with Job and might get an apt as well.
Regarding the funds, I believe whether I stay here or in Canada, I anyways have to keep the sufficient funds for medical emergencies or health insurance. More than money, they need me and a family support at this stage of their lives.

If such rule is there then it would mean I have to choose one thing over another - either I have to leave them to stay in Canada or I will say bye bye to all my efforts (time and money) that I had put in to eventually get PR of Canada.

With such health conditions and age factor I can not let them stay without me. I know my parents, and what they are going to say (beta go there and we will take care of ourselves).

Parents are not dependents for immigration purposes. You cannot include them in your PR application.

You can sponsor your parents for PR later - however if your father has critical health conditions, then it's unfortunately unlikely your parents' application will be approved. The application process also take many years. You will first have to move to Canada and work at least three years in Canada before you meet the requirements to sponsor your parents for PR. Once you submit the application (CIC only accepts 5,000 a year) - the wait will then be at least three years for processing.

As you mentioned, they can try to come to Canada as visitors (although there is no guarantee the visitor visa will be approved). If you want them to stay in Canada as visitors longer, you should look into the super visa. To apply for the super visa you will first have to have a job in Canada that meets minimum income requirements. Your parents will also have to pass a medical and you will have to buy minimum levels of health insurance to cover them during their visit to Canada.

Based on the information provided, it's possible your parents will be allowed to visit Canada. However I think it's very unlikely they will be able to move here permanently.
