Hello, everyone! I'd like to start by thanking this forum; when I sponsored my wife to come to Canada a few years ago, the information here was really helpful!

Last Friday (May 29th, 2020), CIC received our application to sponsor my wife's daughter to come to Canada. I'm having a hard time determining a realistic timeframe for her approval. She's a minor (15 years old), and her application is generally pretty simple. My wife's process took about 10 months from submission to arrival. Should I expect something similar for my step-daughter? Shorter because there are fewer background checks for a minor? Longer because of COVID-19?

She's coming from the Philippines, so I suspect her application will be processed in Manila.

Any input or previous experiences would be really welcome.

Thank you!

It's going to be very hard to say. Typically it's 6-8 months for minor dependents but all processing times are up in the air right now due to COVID-19 and everything is taking longer to process. So unfortunately it's going to be anyone's guess how long it will take.

Thanks for your response. I know that it's always an unknown and no accurate predictions can be made. Even your rough guess of 6-8 months is better than the estimate in my head (which ranges from 3-18 months!).

Thanks again!

What stage is your application ? Did you got the Application number ?

We haven't gotten the AOR1 yet. But the consultant we hired apparently made a mistake on her form, so CIC sent an email about an error on the Use of a Representative Form, and that email included a file number (not an application number). So, we are happy that we know they at least opened the file at the end of September. But we are still waiting for an application number so we can start tracking and/or making inquiries.

FYI, CIC received our application May 29, 2020.
