Hi guys,

I'm from NZ and I've been studying in Canada since September on exchange on a visitor visa (less than six months so no study permit required). My six months runs out on the 7th of January 2016 but I don't leave till the 21st of January. I tried to apply for an extension but the website was down for a couple of days and the 30 day period is up. As far as I can tell I will be issued a departure order. This seems to be no issue as I leave within the 30 days. However, the process of getting a departure order and a certificate of departure is very unclear. Can I just arrive at the airport upon arrival and speak to a CBSA officer or is there a process I have to go through before this? Are there any other options I can take to make sure I leave without any consequence?

Cheers.

You're not going to be issued a departure order for overstaying for two weeks.

You don't need to speak with anyone when you leave on the 21st.

FYI - The 30 days is just a guideline. As long as CIC receives your extension application before your current stay expires, it's fine.

So if I leave on the 21st as planned without doing anything there will be no implications in the future? I wish to come back in several years on a work visa....

Correct - you'll be fine.
